Tamworth Equine Veterinary Centre is located in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia, the centre of the Quarterhorse industry in this country. The town is positioned approximately half way between Brisbane and Sydney on the eastern side of the continent and approximately 400 km inland. The facility is located on highly fertile river flats within 3kms of the town centre occupying 30 acres and is able to accommodate several stallions at any one time. The centre has been specifically designed to be both a veterinary and breeding facility. Reproductive services include residential stallion breeding, artificial insemination with fresh chilled and frozen semen, stallion collection for shipping around the country, stallion training and semen assessment, semen freezing, embryo transfer, and on-farm breeding management. We provide general veterinary services to the region and take referrals from practices throughout the northern part of the state. The principal, Stuart Keller, has been a veterinarian for 26 years; the last 16 in Tamworth. He has a specific interest in equine surgery and stallion reproduction. He is the honorary veterinarian to the Australian Quarterhorse and to the National Cutting Horse Associations. He has been a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Australian Equine Veterinary Association for 26 years. The permanent staff includes Libby Keller, office manager, and Stuart's wife of 26 years; Kim Parkins, secretary, who has been part of the practice for 11 years; Kylie Horton, nurse and chief laboratory technician, and Jodie Hansford, secretary/nurse. The practice is supported by additional seasonal veterinary and general staff to assist with the mare and stallion management at the Centre and at local studs.
