Broadmoor_MikeMike Goebig (photo left riding Stand and Deliver) and Dwayne Knowles opened Broadmoor in Kutztown, Pennsylvania in 1986. This beautiful facility is a full-service Morgan horse training and breeding facility. Both men have success in the show ring but also choose to share their craft with others. Along with their own training and breeding programs they open their barn to the area 4-H groups as well as other youth groups who wish to learn more about the Morgan horse. They also donate their time to various fund raising auctions to support the Morgan horse world.

Mike has been active in Morgan horse club functions as well. He has served as the president and a board member for the American Morgan Horse Association (AMHA) and the Mid-Atlantic Morgan Horse Club. He has won many awards throughout the years including the AMHA Golden Reins Award in 2001 which recognizes professionals who have been involved with the Morgan breed for at least 30 years and have made a lasting impact on the breed on a daily basis through their dedication to working with horses and their riders. In 2005, the USEF awarded him with the C.J. “June” Cronan Trophy which is presented to those excelling in under saddle show breeds. He is also the only six-time winner of the World Park Saddle Championship. The AMHA named him Man of the Year in 2012. As a result of these and many more accomplishments he was inducted into the AMHA Hall of Fame in 2007.

Broadmoor_Dwayne Dwayne (photo right with Get Busy) is an accomplished trainer as well as judge. He is licensed to judge Morgans, Saddlebreds and Saddle Seat Equitation. He not only judges many shows within the United States but he also traveled to England in 2006 to judge the European National Horse Show. Recently, Dwayne was awarded the Cecil Brown Memorial Sportsmanship Award from the AMHA for displaying outstanding sportsmanship throughout the show season.

Several of Broadmoor’s top show horses were stallions that mare owners wanted to breed their mares to so they started their breeding program. “Our stallions offered such great bloodlines to mare owners that we wanted to make them available to the public,” said Dwayne. Three Morgan horse stallions currently call Broadmoor home:, Stand and Deliver (Queens Vanity Flair x NBN At Your Command), Astronomicallee (photo bottom right; Futurity French Command x Liberation Starbrite), and Get Busy (Astronomicallee x So Vain). “The breeding program of these stallions has been very successful because we are training and showing their second and third generation offspring. And they have sired world champions in many different show ring divisions and disciplines.”

The_Masters_Touch Prior to his death in September 2011, The Master’s Touch (photo left; Serenity Masterpiece x Serenity Fancy Flight) also called Broadmoor home. He was undefeated during his career under saddle, was named the Morgan Park Saddle Horse of the Decade in the Peoples’ Choice Awards, and is the only horse to win the World Park Saddle Championship four times. In February 2014, The Morgan Horse magazine ran a feature in its "Legacy Mares" department on the daughters of The Master’s Touch. While he is the most decorated park saddle horse in history, he has had a virtual second career as a broodmare sire. He was also the Morgan featured in USEF Equestrian magazine’s “Horses of the Past” column in 2013.

Stand And Deliver is also a top performance horse and sire. From 2002-2010, he won a world title at the Grand National & World Championship Morgan Horse Show, either shown by his trainer Mike Goebig or owner Tara Good. These include two World Park Saddle Championships. In 2008, he was the Peoples’ Choice Park Saddle Champion and was the Overall Amateur Park Saddle Champion in the Peoples’ Choice awards in 2010.

Due to an injury at a young age, Astronomicallee was never shown. However, he continues to sire show ring champions year after year. In the 2008 Divisional Sire section of Saddle Horse Report’s Morgan Breeders Report, he was the top sire of Junior Park Saddle horses. In 2010, Astronomicallee was the Peoples’ Choice Awards Reserve Sire of the Year and the following year he won the Sire of the Year honors.

Broadmoor_Astronomicallee At the 2009 United Professional Horsemen’s Association Annual Convention, Get Busy was the Horse of the Year award winner in the Morgan Ladies, Amateur, and Junior Park Saddle divisions.

Each of the stallions at Broadmoor have frozen semen in storage at SBS in Maryland. The owners of Broadmoor chose SBS because of their reputation, word of mouth, and because its mobile lab goes directly to their farm. Dwayne said,

“Several of our stallions also show, so with SBS’s mobile lab the stallion can be collected at a convenient time of year. If we have scheduling problems and can’t collect a stallion on any given day to meet the needs of a mare owner we have the frozen semen as a backup plan.”

“One advantage of using frozen semen is that it allows the trainers to concentrate on the stallions’ training and showing goals without the interruption of using them for live cover. Using frozen semen also allows the stallion to be available for a longer breeding season. After a long and successful life, frozen semen allows the ability for the stallion to continue to sire offspring after he has died. Another advantage of using SBS is they do all the shipping of the frozen semen directly from their headquarters including overseas shipments. All I have to do is forward to their office the contact information of the mare owner,” Dwayne said.

Using SBS for the breeding needs of the Morgan stallions at Broadmoor is a win-win situation for the trainers, stallion owners and mare owners.
