Cooper_Two Foals Photo In 1999, Almut Cooper of Germany, took a vacation to the United States. It was while visiting a working ranch in Montana that she became hooked on the Quarter Horse and Paint Horse breeds. After returning home, she became the proud owner of a paint horse before the end of the year. Her venture in breeding horses began with the dream of purchasing an offspring of the NRHA Hall of Fame stallion, Hollywood Dun It. However, the reality was that such an offspring wasn’t in her budget. She put Plan B into action by searching for a good Quarter Horse mare she could purchase and breed to Hollywood Dun It using frozen semen.

Dr. Glenn Blodgett named AQHA President

Dr.Blodgett We wish to congratulate our SBS Affiliate member, Dr. Glenn Blodgett (left), on his new position as the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) President. He obtained his bachelors of science degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University before attending Texas A&M University where he received his degree in veterinary medicine. It was in 1982 that Dr. Blodgett became the resident veterinarian and manager of the horse division of the historic 6666 Ranch. For the past 33 years he has been a key factor in the success of the 6666 Ranch horse division and their reputation as an all-time leading breeder of both racing and performance Quarter Horses.

Shazin Arabians

Shazin Arabians_Facility Halfway between Parma and Piacenza, Italy there is a small town named Alseno. Within this region of Emilia Romagna sits an Arabian breeding farm, Shazin Stud, owned by Mr. Khaled Al Enzan and his son Rashid. During a trip to Italy in 2013 Mr. Al Enzan was looking for a place where he could buy Arabian horses. He randomly stumbled upon a beautiful property that housed a vacation retreat, a landing strip and stables with Spanish and Arabian horses. On that day there were 400 ultralight aircraft on the property for a special event. Struck by the beauty of the structure (photo left) and driven by his passion for horses he decided to buy the property and turn it into an elite Arabian horse breeding farm for halter show horses.

Knocke Arabians - QR Marc and Paul Gheysens Knocke Arabians was founded in 2004 by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gheysens (photo left with QR Marc). In 10 years, it has expanded to one of the largest stud farms of Arabian horses in Europe with a unique collection of horses, including the Arabian stallion QR Marc (World Champion in 2012 – Salon du Cheval, Paris). To optimize the reproductive performance of his horses, Mr. Gheysens insisted on becoming an EU recognized semen center and a well-equipped embryo transfer lab with approximately 150, mainly Arabian, recipient mares. The ET lab also works in close collaboration with Keros nv, one of the largest ET centers in Europe.
