Frozen Semen Distribution

The SBS Distribution System is designed to make ordering and shipping the frozen semen easy & efficient. Once the owner authorizes a shipment, the laboratory staff takes care of the rest.

In the past, the distribution of frozen semen was costly, time consuming, and often unreliable. At SBS, our distribution program is designed to complement the stallion owners' marketing program and is priced similar to cooled transported semen. The advantage of course is that the frozen semen can be stored on site until needed.

Each SBS affiliate is equipped with an ample inventory of nitrogen vapor shippers. All shipments are processed in a timely manner and are a priority at each laboratory.

At the beginning of each calendar year, a Stallion/Semen Owner packet is sent to each client. Included is:

• Distribution charges for each shipment
• Outline of the distribution program
• Shipment Authorization Form
• Instructions for Mare Owners to use when ordering semen
  

Distribution Process Overview

To avoid possible frustration from your client, please remember that no semen can be shipped without the authorization of the stallion/semen owner. Regardless of a verbal agreement you may have with the mare owner, we must ask for formal authorization. The authorization form can be faxed or mailed to us and kept on file until needed. If you are approving multiple shipments, that can be noted on the form so that only one authorization/year is necessary.

Semen is shipped from our facilities Monday-Thursday and Friday if Saturday delivery is available. We always ship priority overnight so that the frozen semen arrives the next day.

A detailed transaction report accompanies each shipment.

Each shipment includes:

• A transaction report - detailing the freeze date, insemination dosage, number of straws shipped, post-thaw progressive motility and concentration information
• Detailed handling and thawing instructions
• A timed insemination protocol
  

In addition the technical staff at each affiliate lab is available for consultation with receiving veterinarians.
