SBS Italia is pleased to announce they will be breeding mares with frozen semen from the famed KWPN stallion, Big Star, during the 2015 breeding season. The frozen semen breedings from Big Star (Quick Star x Jolanda x Nimmerdor) will be managed by Stallion AI Services in the United Kingdom. They will be sending a limited number of breedings from Big Star to AI centers within the European Union including Italy, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium and Southern Ireland. However, SBS Italia will be the only facility in Italy where Big Star’s semen will be available.
By the infamous Quick Star (Galoubet A x Stella) and out of a top Nimmerdor mare, Big Star was destined for success. Following his outstanding achievements in 2012, the high point of which was his performance in the London Olympics, he captured the KWPN Horse of the Year title. In 2013, Big Star once again proved himself as one of the world’s best show jumpers. He was the winner of the 2013 Rolex Grand Prix at Aachen and the CSI5* Piazza di Roma Grand Prix which are amongst many of his impressive international results.
When Nick Skelton was asked about Big Star he said, “the best horse I have ever ridden.” Not only is Big Star’s athletic ability something to be marvelled but his semen quality has proven a success with Stallion AI Services reporting 87% of the mares confirmed in foal over the first two cycles in the 2014 breeding season.
Stallion AI Services has been successfully practicing AI for over 18 years and is based in Shropshire, UK. Their center is approved by DEFRA as a worldwide quarantine center to collect, freeze and store equine semen for worldwide distribution. Dr. Sandro Barbacini has known and worked with Tullis Matson, Stallion AI Services Managing Director, for over 13 years. SBS Italia is looking forward to working alongside Stallion AI Services to offer Big Star’s frozen semen to the Italian sport horse world.
