Dr. Glenn Blodgett named AQHA President

Dr.Blodgett We wish to congratulate our SBS Affiliate member, Dr. Glenn Blodgett (left), on his new position as the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) President. He obtained his bachelors of science degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University before attending Texas A&M University where he received his degree in veterinary medicine. It was in 1982 that Dr. Blodgett became the resident veterinarian and manager of the horse division of the historic 6666 Ranch. For the past 33 years he has been a key factor in the success of the 6666 Ranch horse division and their reputation as an all-time leading breeder of both racing and performance Quarter Horses.

Dr. Blodgett has held several positions within the AQHA as well as having served on several of their committees and councils. In 1991, he became an AQHA director as a representative of Texas and then in 2011 was elevated to the status of director-at-large. Two of the committees he served on include the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Selection Committee from 1995 to 2009 and as chairman for the AQHA Stud Book Committee. The American Quarter Horse Foundation as well as the AQHA Ranching and Marketing and Membership councils also benefited from his knowledge of the quarter horse industry.

The 6666 Ranch won the AQHA Best Remuda Award in 1993. A remuda is defined as a “group of working horses bred for the ranch specifically to work and pen cattle”. This award is presented to ranches for their efforts in raising American Quarter Horses. 6666 L Barn Dr. Blodgett himself was the recipient of the 2011 AQHA Racing Council Special Recognition Award.

Dr. Blodgett and his wife, Karen, have spent the last three decades growing the 6666 Ranch horse division into what it has become today. While taking on his new role as the AQHA President he will strive to continue building on the reputation of the 6666 Ranch as a world renowned producer of American Quarter Horses. Along with spending time on the ranch they enjoy spending time with their two daughters and their husbands along with their five grandchildren.
