OCEC mobile lab Oklahoma City Equine Clinic P.C. is a full service equine veterinary practice situated on 24 acres just minutes from Remington Park and the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds, one of the most popular horse show facilities in the nation. Although staffed by five veterinarians and twelve dedicated support personnel and equipped as a state of the art medical and surgical hospital, reproductive services comprise a significant share of the case load. Consequently, OCEC is pleased to be one of the most recent additions to the prestigious Select Breeders Services affiliate lab network.

We have just completed a busy breeding season at OCEC. The grueling schedule of foal watch by our staff was rewarded by observing the birth of many siblings to current champions in the show ring and winner’s circle at the race track. Our ambulatory service assisted breeding farms in south central Oklahoma’s horse country that manage stallions who bred in excess of 800 mares; while the staff at the clinic managed 110 mares for breeding with chilled transported and frozen semen. We stood one stallion at the clinic and several stallions from the local area hauled in for semen collection and processing for shipment. Several stallions had semen collected and frozen under quarantine in our USDA approved semen collection center and exported internationally. OCEC veterinarians manage a large recipient mare herd for our sister company, Embryo Transfer Services, and transferred 387 embryos on site. Additional embryos flushed were shipped to other commercial embryo transfer facilities or vitrified for future transfer. By striving to be up to date on the latest advances in assisted reproductive techniques we are able to optimize the production of problem breeding mares and enhance the fertility of stallions.

A new addition to our reproduction service is the construction of a mobile semen processing laboratory, primarily for semen cryopreservation, that we can take on the road and efficiently freeze semen on site for breeding farms or veterinary practices. The mobile lab is fully equipped for application of the latest advancements in semen processing protocols and is operated by expertly trained freezing technicians, Dr. Brian Carroll and Caitlyn Hood. Caitlyn has six years of experience utilizing advanced semen processing techniques, such as cushioned centrifugation and density gradient centrifugation, in both chilled and frozen semen applications.  Dr. Carroll has concentrated his continuing education efforts in stallion reproduction including strategies to maximize fertility in subfertile stallions. OCEC mobile lab This expertise backed by the professional quality control and support of the Select Breeders Services network enables us to preserve stallion’s semen to meet the highest standards in the industry and to be accepted with confidence by breeders worldwide.

We plan for our primary travel area to be roughly within a 4 hour radius from Oklahoma City including the Texas Panhandle, southern Kansas, southwestern Missouri, and Western Arkansas. Trips outside this area will be available dependent upon the number of stallions desiring the service and the time required to be in the location to fulfill the amount of frozen semen desired.
