SBS 30th Anniversary_Golden AV We would like to say a big “THANK YOU” to all who came to our World Headquarters in Chesapeake City, MD on September 9th to help us celebrate the first 30 years of Select Breeders Services. It was an absolutely beautiful afternoon with partly sunny skies and warm yet cool temperatures. We celebrated with more than 200 of our wonderful clients, past and present employees and friends from 3pm - 7pm in the evening.

We enjoyed a wonderful barbeque dinner of pulled pork, pulled chicken and all the fixins provided by Young’s BBQ. Then we topped it off with homemade ice cream from Woodside Farm Creamery. Throughout the event, beer and wine were served by the Broken Spoke Vineyard and Winery. There were lawn games such as large Jenga blocks, horseshoes, Bocce Ball, and corn hole for everyone to enjoy. The Jenga blocks were especially a big hit with the youngest attendees who turned them into various things they created with their imaginations. Many people took advantage of the facility tours headed up by Jonathan Clark, Julie Skaife and Dr. Scofield. We had so much fun during those four hours that it was sad to see everyone leave.

Dr. Ed Squires spoke kind words about Paul regarding the professional relationship they have shared for more than 30 years but also the friendship which has grown because of their working side by side for so many years. The SBS Staff presented Paul with the Golden AV award as well as three items Paul will be able to treasure for years to come. They were a framed newspaper article the staff came across while searching for photos to be included in the slide show that rotated during the celebration. SBS 30th Anniversary_Door Prizes The article was written in the 1980s and included a photo of Paul in some pretty fancy eye glasses that he likely wished were not captured in a photo for all of us to see. The second item was a framed photo and information about the Poitou Donkey that was frozen by SBS to help preserve the genetics of the breed. The final gift was a framed memorial of the great Trakehner stallion Abdullah, the first stallion commercially frozen by SBS, along with kind words written by his owner Sue Williams.

Each person who attended was given several tickets for a chance to win door prizes that were generously donated for our special occasion. Additional tickets were available for purchase with all proceeds to be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) 100-mile bike ride. Paul has participated in this ride for the past three years because Juvenile Diabetes has touched their family because his son, Chris, was diagnosed when he was a young boy. Due to the generosity of those who purchased additional tickets, we were able to donate more than $900 to the JDRF in their quest to find a cure for this disease.

Our evening ended with the giving away of the door prizes. Paul, along with his wife Eileen, drew tickets out of bags to help send many people home with more than they came with. The door prizes included breedings to Hilltop Farm and Iron Spring Farm stallions, FedEx swag, items from Posh Pony Boutique, a gift basket from WAWA, a scale replica model of the Historical Landmark Star Barn from B & D builders, Platinum Performance products, SBS 30th Anniversary_Group a foal kit and probiotic paste from Full Bucket Nutrition, Equitainers from Hamilton Research, a $100 gift certificate and hair products from Domain Salon, a basket of canine products from The Mill of Bel Air, a nutritional phone consultation from Summit Equine Nutrition, a gift basket from Stoltzfus Feed and Supply, as well as various services and swag from SBS and SBS Veterinary Services.

Thank you once again to those who donated door prizes for this event, our guests who helped us celebrate and our vendors who kept us fed and hydrated! We can’t wait to celebrate with you again soon. Please visit our Facebook page to see more photos from the SBS 30th Anniversary Celebration.
